Nightfall

These images were made at dusk, just as the last light was leaving the sky. Many of them were captured with a hand-held exposure which gives them a blurry, dream-like quality. The loss of midtone detail calls the eye to the relationship between the darkest and lightest areas of the scene. When I’m outdoors taking these photographs I’m aware of how much we rely upon light to inform our understanding of the world, and how rapidly it shifts when the light is no longer available.

Process/Print Info: The photographs in this collection were shot digitally and cropped in a square format. They are toned and printed in pigmented inks on archival fine art paper. The image size is 12.5 x 12.5, printed in an edition of 30.
